Riding The train Backwards

Autumn train tracks.jpg

Recently, I was on a train travelling thru beautiful autumn countryside. Vibrant reds, purples, greens and golds everywhere I looked. It was so beautiful.   I wanted to share the experience with others thru pictures.

The thing was - I was seated facing backwards...

There I was trying to capture all these special moments as they passed in and out of view thru the window.

The amazing pond with its still water a canvas of reflection, the trees shimmering both above and on the water at the same time.

Quick – take the picture….. I missed it.

Regret of a moment lost, unable to share, to look at it and appreciate it because it was gone, it was so beautiful in that fleeting moment while I fumbled to take a picture.

The brilliant red barn nestled in a field of gold, dried grasses swaying gently in the wind in the organised straight rows where the farmer planted his field.
Quick – take the picture….. I missed it

Moment of Awareness

I probably continued in this vain for 20 minutes taking pictures of lost moments, never catching them, never appreciating them, pining over lost moments, living in regret.  Then that moment of awareness.     Wait what am I doing, this moment is about now.         Thank you!!

Gently I was reminded to live in the present.
I put down my camera, sat back and looked out the window. The joy and anticipation of what will come into view set aside as I enjoyed the moment, appreciating the beauty and splendor of a train ride in autumn thru the countryside. So very grateful for the opportunity to appreciate this display of autumns creation of colors and textures. Hours passed yet I was unaware of time as I was in now, this moment, outside of time.

I know so many people that are riding the train backwards. They are so focused on trying to make everything perfect, or comparing everything to a past memory, so fully engaged with yesterday, last week, past jobs, past loves, past experience,  that they are missing the moment. Their lives locked in the blur of missing “now” as they reach back trying to capture what has already past.  Others I know are craning their necks trying to see what is around the corner of tomorrow, what the future will bring, so focused on creating their tomorrow that they are once again missing today.

Breathe gently, take a moment and be here, be now. Sit back and enjoy the journey of today, this moment. Allow yourself to appreciate it with all your senses, without trying to hold it, judge it or compare it.  Savour now and enjoy this moment. We all can choose how we ride the train.       ~ Lisa

Are you riding the train backwards? Craning your neck to see tomorrow? I invite you to step out of time for a moment and “be”

Breathe gently, take a moment and be here, be now. Sit back and enjoy the journey of today, this moment. Allow yourself to appreciate it with all your senses, without trying to hold it, judge it or compare it.  Savour now and enjoy this moment. We all can choose how we ride the train.       ~ Lisa
